For the past 7 years, The Studio @ Climber’s Rock has been a part of the diverse and eclectic community of climbers, and non-climbers alike across the GTA. Our mission is simple: to provide a space where individuals can gather without judgment to improve the overall health of their body, mind and spirit. To that end, we offer a wide variety of classes to challenge people of all physical abilities. Our welcoming, knowledgeable and professional instructors will guide you in reaching your individual goals and full potential.
Climber’s Rock is proud to host a unique, innovative and convenient Yoga Teacher Training Program. We offer a comprehensive approach to the art of teaching yoga, philosophy, and development of practical skills with an emphasis on experiential learning and integration of the materials in a step-by-step approach. You will receive careful and attentive instruction on how to deepen your own yoga practice as well as learn the necessary tools to teach others in various settings: including mixed-level classes, privates and corporate settings. This experiential model of learning will provide hands-on instruction in practice, observation, assistance and adjustments. You will develop the technique, knowledge and confidence to teach others.
Why are we different? We provide cutting edge information on kinematics and movement science based on the most current research. We don’t believe in offering the same canned information session after session. Our program is constantly being reworked and tweaked to improve our offerings by presenting information in a way that not only flows logically, but is also easy to navigate for those with busy lives. To that end, we have developed a phased approach:
PHASE 1: Advancing Your Practice
PHASE I of the Yoga Teacher Training will focus on creating a foundational overview of yoga philosophy, anatomy and alignment in asana. If you want to expand your practice beyond the typical yoga class and into both theory and practice, this is definitely appropriate for you. We will incorporate time for contemplation, asana practice, anatomical and philosophical studies to help you learn and grow physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. This course is a prerequisite for RYT 200hr certification.
PHASE I: Advancing Your Practice: This is open to anyone who wants to deepen their own personal practice. We will delve into the following:
- study of asana/poses
- mobility & flexibility training
- general anatomy as it relates to your own practice
- pranayama/breath work
- philosophy: history of yoga; current application of yoga to modern life; tools to help deal with stress (to name a few)
- exploration into various healing modalities such as acupressure; Traditional Chinese Medicine & nutrition
- rights of students
*Please note: Phase 1 can be taken as a stand-alone course for those not looking to teach yoga
PHASE 2: Taking the Seat of The Teacher
PHASE II is where we can take everything we’ve learned about our own bodies and apply that knowledge to teaching others. We don't supply a one-size-fits all approach to yoga; we look at how the body moves, then we look at the ways in which our individual differences influence and affect not only yoga asana, but movement in general. Our YTT mission is to learn to teach the person not the pose.
PHASE II: Taking the Seat of the Teacher: Required for 200 RYT certification:
- advanced, applied anatomy & physiology
- developing skills of observation
- advanced asana study
- adjustments & assisting
- teaching specific populations (seniors, prenatal, etc.)
The total cost for the RYT 200hr program is $3,200.00. This price includes both phases (Advancing Your Practice & Taking the Seat of the Teacher), a 12-month membership for Climber’s Rock (climbing and yoga) as well as a lesson on how to belay. Successful completion of this program will qualify graduates for registration with the Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200.
Not sure you want to teach yoga? You can register for Advancing Your Practice, PHASE 1 on its own for $1,100.00. You’ll have access to relevant online materials as well as a membership for 6 months.
Price does not include HST. If you cancel before the teacher training begins, a full refund will be given. If you cancel after the teacher training starts, you’ll be refunded the prorated amount minus a $250 administration fee. If you complete the online portion and withdraw from the program NO refund will be given.
Classes will run on Wednesdays from 6pm-10pm. Our first session starts on September 12th, 2018. There is also an online component to this training where you will have access to workbooks, homework assignments, video lectures & tutorials, webinars, and power point presentations. This portion can be started at any time once registration is complete. There will also be recorded classes on some lectures so that if you miss a day, you won’t miss the content.
